Iconic cartoon character, Betty Boop, may finally get her chance at the big screen. Though none had probably expected Simon Cowell, known most widely for his role as a judge on the television shows “American Idol” and “The X Factor,” to be behind the project. Cowell and his production company, Syco Entertainment, along with Animal Logic—an Australian studio responsible for “The Lego Movie,” the “Happy Feet” series, and “Walking with Dinosaurs”—will be producing a live-action/CGI hybrid Betty Boop film.
The project is slated to be a “music-driven comedy,” which is likely to consist of current music, as Cowell has previously stated his company only produces film with current songs. At the moment, there is no director or writer attached to the film. However, Creative Artists Agency is representing Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic, and has brokered a deal with King Features Syndicate, which represents Fleischer Studios, the company that owns Betty Boop.
