Embedding the Cloud
Quanta computer is well known as the world・s largest notebook PC manufacturer, producing over 50 million laptops a year. As a leading ODM company, Quanta provides innovative system design, manufacturing and supply chain management as services globally, with products ranging from Smartphone, PND, Tablet, NBPC to datacenter solutions. As Cloud Computing is recognized as the biggest paradigm shift in the IT industry since Internet, Quanta, in 2010, sets her new future corporate vision on smart integrations of new 3C (Cloud Computing, Connectivity and Client Devices) for Anyone, Anytime and Anywhere service. In this talk, we shall share some thoughts regarding the convergence possibilities of Embedded Systems and Cloud Computing for future cloud application and service.
Ted Chang, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Quanta Computer Inc., Taiwan
Dr. Ted Chang is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Quanta Computer Inc. He oversees the corporate technology strategy, advanced product development and global partnership. Along his role as CTO, he is also assigned as the head of Quanta Research Institute (QRI) for advanced researches, innovations and new business incubations.
Starting from 2004, Dr. Chang also serves as the program director of T-Party Project, a 10-year research project for future computing and communication between Quanta and MIT Computer Science and Artificial Lab (CSAIL). Dr. Chang is a board director of Quanta Research Cambridge Inc. and Digimax Inc., the best 3D animation film winner of both 2008 Tokyo Anime and 2010 LA Movie Festival. He is also a visiting scientist at MIT CSAIL.
Dr. Chang had been the executive assistant to the CEO and Chairman of Quanta on his strategic planning efforts for ten years. During the same period of time, he also leaded the planning office, corporate IP team and had incubated several new business units, new spin-offs and research labs in Quanta.
Over the past ten years, Dr. Chang and QRI team has received various recognitions globally, which includes the best technology management award from CSMOT in 2006, a regional winner award from European Satellite Navigation Competition in 2008 and the best innovation enterprise award from MOEA in both 2003 and 2010 etc. Dr. Chang's past projects on One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) and QRI research model were published as business cases by Harvard Business School.
Dr. Chang holds B.S. (.88), M.S. (.92) and Ph.D. (.96) all from Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, National Cheng-Kung University. Dr. Chang・s research now focuses on innovation management, user experience design and service engineering over cloud computing.
